I HAVE A FRIEND WHO… “Is Addicted”
We have habits and Hang – Ups that hurt us!
Romans 7:15, “I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.”
First Step In overcoming these addictions
is personal disclosure.
2 Corinthians 10:4, “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.
On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
A stronghold is any state of compulsion, obsession or preoccupation that involves our desire.
Five Steps on the Road to Freedom
1. Predetermine your pattern of Temptation.
Hebrews 10:25, “There is pleasure in sin for a short time.”
Proverbs 4:26, Plan accordingly what you do, avoid evil and walk straight ahead, do not go one step off the way.”
2. Protect the condition of my heart.
Proverbs 4:23, “Above all else guard your heart because it affects everything you do.”
Ask Yourself: How are you doing physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually in your relationships?
Ephesians 4:2,” do not give the devil a foothold.”
3. Pray for God’s help.
Matthew 26:4, “Keep alert and pray, otherwise temptation will overpower you.”
Psalm 50:15, “Tell me when trouble comes and I will save you.”
Jesus understands our weaknesses because He faced the same temptations. Hebrews 4
4. Direct our attention elsewhere.
James 1:1, “Temptation comes from the lure of our own evil thoughts.”
Win the battle in our mind because whatever is capturing our attention is what gets us.
2 Corinthians 10:5, “We capture every thought and make it captive to Jesus.”
5. We need to Participate in a small group.
James 5:6, “Admit your faults to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”
We must understand that there are some problems we face that we will never solve on our own!
Now that you know what to do:
DO IT!
I Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation comes your way that is beyond what others have faced.
You are not alone.
God will never let you down. He will always be there."
