“It is a trap for a man to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider his vows.” Proverbs 20:25
Three Presuppositions We Begin With
- A lot of our own troubles we bring on ourselves.
- The Bible offers us very clear advice how to avoid it.
- WE all tend to make the same mistakes.
A Basic Principle For Life That Everyone Needs
Proverbs 20:25 - "It is a trap for a man to dedicate
some thing rashly and only later to consider his vows."
To promise without pondering,
to decide without deliberating,
to rashly or impulsively make a decision
based on our feelings,
without thinking through the consequences,
is a trap!
- A Law Of Life: It is easier to get in than to get out!
Three Areas Where We All Fall Into This Trap
God's Answer For Overcoming "Impulsiveness"
- Choose your commitments carefully.
“A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t, and even brags about it!” Proverbs 13:16
A prudent man foresees the difficulties ahead and prepares for them, but the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.” Proverbs 22:3
- Choose your commitments prayerfully.
"As you enter the Temple, [in other words, as you live in God's presence], keep your ears open and your mouth shut! Don't be like the fool who doesn't even realize that it's sinful to make rash promises to God, for He is in heaven and you are here on earth, so let your words be few."
"It is far better NOT to say you'll do something than to say you will and then not do it.” Ecclesiastes 5:1-5 (Living Bible)
“If anyone lacks wisdom,
he should ask God,
who gives generously to all
without finding fault,
and it will be given to him.”
Gods plan to help us go the extra mile
is to keep our lives balanced and blessed!
