CTR by: “Connecting to those like us”
Rev 1:4-8

Today is Christ the King Sunday! It’s the day we lift Christ up as our Lord and Savior, our highest good and ultimate goal. But just what do we mean when we say Christ is the “King?”

  • Christ has touched our lives, and we have come to know Christ as our king. We have experienced God’s love, and know the joys that come from following Jesus, our Savior and our King. So, we proclaim, “Christ is the king!”

  • What are we willing to sacrifice, so that not even one will be lost?

“…when they hear the word, they immediately receive it with joy. But they have no root, and endure only for a while; then, when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.” (Mark 4:16-17)

Let me ask you a question:
is it harder to share your faith with someone you know, or with a stranger?

Paul tells us, “For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2: 19-20)
  • So, we proclaim, “Christ is King!” What does that look like in your life?

  • Christ is a good and faithful king who has been with us through it all.

  • We reflect on how Christ is faithful to us today, was faithful to us yesterday, and will be faithful to us tomorrow

  • We are members of the kingdom and we are called to show others this glorious kingdom that they too are a part of even if they don’t realize it.

As you seek to Cross the River today and every day,
the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will keep your hearts and your minds,
in Christ Jesus!

Crossing the river… “by Connecting to those NOT like us”
Luke 5:27-32

Jesus approaches Levi (Matthew) “Follow Me”
Matthew response to that was that he got up, left everything and followed him.

What does it mean to leave everything behind and follow Jesus?
  • Some when He says leave everything.

  • To others, leaving everything means to be willing to leave behind the old lifestyle.

In the Scripture, there are two callings:
  1.  There is a general calling for all those that accept Christ as Lord.

  1. Special calling for those that go into full-time ministry.

 (29) “Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
Matthew was converted, transformed, & repentant!
Here is an important point…
  • We just cannot let them influence us, we must influence them.

Philippians 1:12-13, “Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.”

Philippians 1:20-22, “I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, weather by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me.”

Follow me is an invitation…
an invitation that Matthew took…
and we are also invited to take…

If our church is only defined by what happens inside these walls,
we are being NOT THE CHURCH that God called us to be.

Luke 5:31-32, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Crossing the River means:

Pray for them,
Reach out to them,
Love them,
Let Jesus change them.

Even if they are NOT like us…

Crossing the river by “Connecting to the Carnal”
Mark 1:39-45
If I am Going to Cross the River…
  • Jesus Teaches Us that We are to Reach out to those who are carnal! v. 39-40

  • Jesus Teaches Us to Connect in Love! v. 41-42

  • Jesus Teaches us the Ministry of Restoration! v. 44-45

The question we must ask ourselves today is:

ARE WE READY TO BE JESUS TO SUCH A LEPROSY FILLED (CARNAL) WORLD?

Crossing the River: “By Connecting to the Lost”
 Luke 15:1-32

God is in the relentless pursuit of finding and connecting to lost people.

Luke 15:1-7
Crossing the River means… I Seek with Passion!
  • You may have to follow them into some rugged terrain.

  • Meet them at their level of spiritual interest.

Luke 15:8-10
Crossing the River means… I Seek with Persistence!
  • We stop because we do not have much patience with people

Luke 15:11-32
Crossing the River means… I Seek with Patience!
  • You may have to watch them hit rock bottom before they look up.

  • Trust God and do not doubt His desire to see them saved.

Crossing the River =Two Messages here:

  • Those that are found…Don’t ever give up!
Be passionate, persistent and patient! The danger of being found is that we might turn into the older brother…be careful!

  • Those that are lost…He’ll never give up!
He is still looking. Don’t give up hope.

    David Craig, Pastor

I began my journey as the Lead Pastor in June 2011.  Prior to coming to Shreveport I served in Texas, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.  I studied religion and music at Southern Nazarene University and received my M.A. degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary.

I was raised in a Christian home where I was exposed to the Lord at an early age.  As a junior in high school I felt a call to serve Jesus for a lifetime in the ministry.

I and my wife, Dawn, have two sons. Caleb is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and Adam attends ULM in Monroe, La

In my spare time I enjoy sports of all kinds, but especially the Texas Longhorns.
