From Here to There: “Endure & Finish”
How God Leads Us when…
  • God takes broken people gladly.

  • God takes broken people despite their imperfections.

  • God takes broken people impartially.

  • God takes broken people for His glory.

God Fixes Broken People…So we Can Endure and Finish
  • As we build one another up. Rom. 15:1-2
“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.”

  • As we orient our lives around the Bible.  Rom. 15:4
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

  • As we endure for Jesus’ sake. Rom. 15:4
“…so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

  • As we remain hopeful. Rom. 15:4
“…so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

  • As we live in harmony with one another. Rom. 15:5
“May the God who gives you endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus.”

  • As we praise Him together.  Rom. 15:6
“…so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

  • As we follow the example of Jesus Rom. 15:7
“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”

In the Church, We get From Here to There As…

We show consideration for each other.
We study the scriptures together.
We endure to the end with the hope that God inspires.
We live in harmony as we praise our God.
And as we follow Jesus,
We strive to finish the race and experience the victory of finishing!

As We Journey Together to Be a Blessing!

From Here to There – “Ready, Set, Go”
Genesis 45:1-15, Isaiah 56:1-8, Matthew 15:21-28

Have you ever noticed that Jesus initiated, even generated ministry? He did not wait passively for opportunities to come to him; rather he created opportunities; he created windows for people to approach him.

  • Before most people will become friends with God they must become friends with God’s people.

  • Very Important Phrase:  Matthew 15. “And after that his brothers talked with him.”

3 Words for today…
To know what the Lord expects of you is to get: Ready!
Joshua 3:13 (NLT) The priests will carry the Ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth. As soon as their feet touch the water, the flow of water will be cut off upstream, and the river will stand up like a wall.”

To know what the Lord expects of you is to get:  Set…
1 Peter 3:15-16 (NIV) 15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

  • Being ready and set is not as easy as it sounds when we try to do it on our own.

John 14:26 (NLT) But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

To know what the Lord expects of you is to: Go:

Three words describe every church’s attitude toward “those who are distant.”
· Believe · Behave · Belong

• But Wesleyans (and more importantly Jesus) say:
you can Belong – then you’ll Believe – and then Behave.

“The Church and Her Kids”
  Pastor Jeralyn Wilhite

Children are a _____________ from God.
Luke 18:15-17
_______ of people come to know Jesus between the ages of 6 and 14. We cannot downplay the importance of ministry to, for, and with children in building the Kingdom of God!

How should the Church relate to her kids?
_______________ them.
· 1 John 4:7-8
· 1 Corinthians 13
*Love is ____________ and _________.
· Proverbs 22:6
*_____________ a child is loving a child!
*Be loving in correction.

________________ to them.
· Children today are often expected to handle the things in their lives like____________. They’re not developmentally wired that way!
· Instead of always talking to them, we need to be willing to ______________.
*Ask them questions about their lives.
*Don’t downplay their concerns.
*Be willing to admit it if you don’t know something.
· Relationships are not formed on one-way streets. Simply talking at children will get you nowhere.

_______________ them.
· Galatians 3:12-17
· Children are looking up to the grown-ups in their lives – including you!
· Be gentle and patient with them.

_______ them.
· 1 Timothy 4:12

· Ministry ___________ children
        *  Young adults who have stayed in the church say one reason is that their parents
were active in ministry with them. They didn’t just send them on mission trips or
church work days, but they were there with them.
·  Children can do a lot more than you think they can!
· Give them areas in which they can serve in age-appropriate tasks.
*  Children can’t usually write sermons, but they can lead worship, read Scripture, and tell people the basic message of Jesus.
*  Kids can reach their friends better than any of us can!

We need our children. We must be willing to walk alongside them, loving them, listening to them, leading them, and letting them serve. They are not the church of ______________; they are the church _____________.

    David Craig, Pastor

I began my journey as the Lead Pastor in June 2011.  Prior to coming to Shreveport I served in Texas, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.  I studied religion and music at Southern Nazarene University and received my M.A. degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary.

I was raised in a Christian home where I was exposed to the Lord at an early age.  As a junior in high school I felt a call to serve Jesus for a lifetime in the ministry.

I and my wife, Dawn, have two sons. Caleb is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and Adam attends ULM in Monroe, La

In my spare time I enjoy sports of all kinds, but especially the Texas Longhorns.
