Pastor Jeralyn Wilhite

Love -  Ephesians 5

John Wesley "Love of God and Love of Neighbor"
  • Gods love is unconditional
  • Love others through relationships

What if we talked about God as much as we talked about each other and the thngs we love?
  • God uses his people to provide
  • Put action behind our words
  • Love people where they are
  • Don't do your own things, get too busy and distracted

"Be imitators of God and walk in Love"

Psalm 23 - "Fear No Evil"

When we Struggle - Jesus Rescues
  • Struggle is not a foreing concept to the people of God
  • We do not need to be afraid of struggle within the body of Christ - Must call evil out.
  • Accept hardship as a pathway to peace
  • We are called to proclaim the victory before it comes.

He promises us, we are not alone!
  • Jesus is with us.
  • surrounded by brothers and sisters of faith

John 16:33, "In me...you will have peace"

God’s Direction: Haggai Speaks:  God’s Blessing - Haggai 2:10-19:

The blessing is not the encouragement to begin, but the progress of the work.
Top of Form

That was then, this is now.

Here is Haggai’s point. The corruption has dominated the ceremonial condition of the people.
  • They were corrupted by the attitudes of the people.

  • It was more about the attitudes that kept the building from being attempted.

That was then ...
Your sin of apathy and procrastination has kept your economy in a slump.

This is now ...
The early reaping time has just ended, and it has been a sorry harvest. The late grain planting season has just begun.

So, God asks a question:
“Is there yet any seed left in the barn?" To His hearers, the obvious answer is, "No, there is no seed left."

But then Haggai comes to the resounding and hopeful point of his message.

It is the very last word: From this day on I will bless you!

  • Being a follower of Jesus requires commitment to an ongoing process of holiness, that makes us more like him as the days and years move by.

  • It isn’t about just offering ourselves to Him once and being done, we must do it every day, all the time, in a variety of ways.

  • Jesus makes the point that the wrong attitude inhibits the consecration of an offering.
"Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23-24 NIV)

  • Haggai’s first message was to encourage restarting of the work.
  • Haggai’s last message was to overcome the discouragement that comes with looking back to the past.

But now…
From this day forward…
Now that the work is continuing and moving ahead…

The curse is over, and blessings will come!

Divine Direction – Haggai Speaks – God’s Vision

Promise of Glory - Haggai 2:1–9

Here is the timetable to date:
• Aug 29 Haggai brings a word of encouragement to recommence work on the Temple
• Sept 21 The work begins
• Oct 17 Some become discouraged and Haggai brings a second message
But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away. (Ezra 3:12-13 TNIV)

So Haggai reminds them of God’s promise to the obedient:
You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new. I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high. (Lev 26:10-13 TNIV)

Two powerful statements accompany the reminder:
• I am with you!
• Do not fear!

The basic command is:
  • Be strong

  • Remember the power of the one you serve

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14 TNIV)
  • Remember the wealth of the one you serve
The future will outstrip it.

The Temple we are building is a living Temple made of living stones, built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets,
aligned with our chief cornerstone, Jesus Christ.

Do not say, "Why were the old days better than these?" For it is not wise to ask such questions. (Ecclesiastes 7:10 TNIV)

In fact, according to Haggai, the golden years are not in the past, they are in the future.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom. (Ecclesiastes 9:10 NIV)

Whatever is worth doing, is worth doing well.
• What is your ministry?
• What is your place in this church?
• Who are the stones adjacent to you?

Your dedication to the task determines it success.
God’s work has never been complete without people.

Don’t give in to low expectations.
The God who shakes the heavens and earth is in control.

    David Craig, Pastor

I began my journey as the Lead Pastor in June 2011.  Prior to coming to Shreveport I served in Texas, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.  I studied religion and music at Southern Nazarene University and received my M.A. degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary.

I was raised in a Christian home where I was exposed to the Lord at an early age.  As a junior in high school I felt a call to serve Jesus for a lifetime in the ministry.

I and my wife, Dawn, have two sons. Caleb is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and Adam attends ULM in Monroe, La

In my spare time I enjoy sports of all kinds, but especially the Texas Longhorns.
