Resonate - with the song of the resurrection
“What are You…A Believer or A Disciple?” - Luke 14:25-35

Let's look at the difference between Jesus as your Savior and Jesus as your Lord.

The Crowds Who Followed Jesus…

  • They only followed Jesus for what they could get.      (John 6:27)

  • Jesus invested most of His time on earth, not in the crowds, but in the Twelve.

"You believe in God?  Even the devil believes, and he trembles."  (James 2:19)

  • Jesus still looks for today, what He has always looked for--not just believers, but disciples.

The Four Bible Conditions For Discipleship With Jesus…

  • The disciple must leave all.

"In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple."  (Luke 14:33)

"For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it." (Mark 8:35)

  • The disciple must deny self.

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." (Matthew 16:24)

  • The disciple must continue to grow.

"If you continue in My word, then you are really My disciples."    (John 8:31)

"We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands.  The man who says, `I know Him,' but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in Him." (1 John 2:3-4)

  • The disciple will bear fruit.

"This is to My Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples." (John 15:8)

Satan's greatest work--to make us valueless to God!

The Four Marks Of A Fully-Devoted Follower (Disciple)

  • Someone who walks with God!

  • Someone who lives the Word!

  • Someone who contributes to the Work!

  •  Someone who impacts their World!

"Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)

Resonate- with the song of the resurrection
“Living a Life Filled with the Spirit” - 1 Corinthians 2:14-3:3

IT BEGINS WITH FAITH!
“Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, but also for us.
It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.”  Romans 4:23-25

The normal Christian life is not an up and down, "elevator" spiritual life, but a life that is lived filled with the Holy Spirit.  This is the way God wants us all to live!

The Bible's Three Kinds of People

  • The Natural Man (1 Cor 2:14)

  • The Spirit-Filled Christian (1 Cor 2:15)

  • The Carnal Christian (1 Cor 3:1-3)

What Living Filled with the Holy Spirit Means!

  • The difference of carnal verses spiritual living.

"I don't understand what I do.  For what I want to do, I do not do, but what I hate, I do.   And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that God's law is good... I know that nothing good lives in my sinful nature.  For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out... For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not
want to do--this I keep on doing."   (Rom 7:15-19)

"When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.   For in my inner being I delight in God's law; But I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin.   What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? (Rom 7:21-24)

  • It's not a matter of getting more of God, but of God getting all of you!

"If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin!"     (1 John 1:7)

How to Be Filled with the Holy Spirit

  • Confess your need.   (Psalm 139:23-24)

  • Ask God to cleanse your heart of "Self" in control.    (1 Thess. 5:23)

  •   Claim His promise to fill you, by faith.   (1 Thess. 5:24, Acts 26:18)

Resonate- with the song of the resurrection
“Why do we need the Holy Spirit?”

John 16:7, 13-15

The Holy Spirit doesn't produce "fits," He produces beautiful, Spirit-filled, Spirit-controlled lives.

The PERSON of the Spirit

Jesus' teaching about the Holy Spirit.

  • Jesus always used the personal pronoun in referring to the Spirit.
  • Nine times in John 16:7-15, "He" or "Him" is used.

What the Holy Spirit is NOT?

  • He is NOT a thing or an object.
  • He is NOT merely the divine life within us.
  • He is NOT merely an impersonal "power" from God at work in us.

What the Holy Spirit IS -- He is a Person!

  • He has a mind.            (Rom. 8:27, John 14:26)
  • He has emotions        (Eph. 4:30, Gal 5:22-23)
  • He has a will.              (Acts 16:6, John 16:13)

The POSITION of the Spirit

  • More than a human personality, He is a divine Person, part of the Holy Trinity.

  • All the characteristics of God, are also those of the Holy Spirit.

Two verses where all three Persons of the Trinity are mentioned.

Matthew 28:19, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 13:14, “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

The PRESENCE of the Spirit

  • All that Jesus did FOR man, the Holy Spirit now does IN man.

  • It is His Presence that transforms the Church from simply a stale organization into a living, growing, spiritual body.

Let us open every area of our lives to the Holy Spirit, so that our every conduct
will be worthy of the name we carry -- "Christian."

    David Craig, Pastor

I began my journey as the Lead Pastor in June 2011.  Prior to coming to Shreveport I served in Texas, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.  I studied religion and music at Southern Nazarene University and received my M.A. degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary.

I was raised in a Christian home where I was exposed to the Lord at an early age.  As a junior in high school I felt a call to serve Jesus for a lifetime in the ministry.

I and my wife, Dawn, have two sons. Caleb is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and Adam attends ULM in Monroe, La

In my spare time I enjoy sports of all kinds, but especially the Texas Longhorns.
