I HAVE A FRIEND WHO…“Is Going Through a Divorce”
The Bible Allows for Divorce in 3 situations:
Adultery Abandonment Abuse
Malachi 2:16, “God hates divorce”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO B A TRUE FRIEND TO OUR WORLD?
Jesus calls us: Friend!
True Friends: Save Up!
Christ followers must have relational reserves.
True Friends: Show Up!
We need other people.
True Friends: Step Up!
Make yourself available to do whatever needs to be done.
Job’s Friends, when they saw him, cried out, ripped their robes, and dumped dirt on their heads as a sign of their grief. Then they sat with him on the ground! Job 2:11-13 (the message)
We pray for them that they would…
Receive God’s presence.
Receive God’s grace.
Release their pain.
Psalm 34:18, “God promises to be close to the broken-hearted.”
True Friends: Shore them up!
We must lead them to Jesus.“So let us boldly approach the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
We must help them receive mercy.“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:31-32 (NLT)
True Friends: Stir them up!
Friends do that by bringing them to Jesus!(church, Sunday school life group, bible study, activity)
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work, until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1:6
