Daniel Fast: Daniel 1 & 10
10 Day: January 13-23 – 21 Day January 11-31
· Jesus practiced and taught fasting: Matthew 4:1, 6:16!
· Fasting options include: all food, meat, sweats, favorites, habits, or something else the Spirit quickens us to lay aside in order to enhance communion with Him!
· The discipline of fasting strengthened prayer for Ezra (Ezra 8:23), David (Psalms 35:13), and Christ early disciples (Acts 13:1, 14:23)
Helpful Tips for a Successful Fast
· It's wise to begin tapering off your food intake a few days before in preparation for the fast. It's not a good idea to gorge yourself the day before.
· Make a fasting calendar. Determine what each day and week will look like for the 10 or 21 day.
· Make sure you are medically able to fast before attempting it.
· Keep your fridge and pantry stocked with the items you need. Being unprepared to fast sets you up to give into temptation.
· Choose well when selecting products, stick to raw foods as much as you can, limit artificial ingredients and keep tempting food out of the kitchen.
· Make it a priority to attend church during your 10 or 21 day fast.
· If you mess up, don't get discouraged. Just get right back on track and keep going. God's mercies "are new every morning". (Lam. 3:22-23.
· It's very likely you'll experience some side effects for the first day or two. Let's face it, you will probably feel sluggish, have a headache and you are going to feel hungry! But after those first couple of days, drinking plenty of water and juices or broth, you will find a strength and grace that will enable you to do this! Remember, sacrifice is giving up something you love for something you love even more!
